FP: Boston meets Olivia

Finally getting more of these profiles done! Featured in this post is a new friend of mine, Olivia, who is an amazing model and also happens to be queer and have awesome style. A few weeks ago, I got to do a shoot with her and test out my photography skills with a professional who really knows how to work it in front of the camera, so it ended up being a super fun, easy shoot.

I also asked her a few questions about her style, her favorite places to shop, and more.

How would you define your personal style?

“I think of my personal style as generally feminine with a bit of an edge, sometimes erring more towards the androgynous side.  With fashion today it’s easy and fun to move along that spectrum.  I love classic pieces accented by something unique, a modern structure or a nontraditional graphic design.  I generally stick to a uniform of neutral colors – black, white, grey, denim. Oh and lots (and lots) of leather.”

What are three of your favorite pieces in your closet that you own?

“My favorite pieces usually have some sentiment behind them, whether found while I was traveling or handed down from relatives. It’s hard to choose just three!

  • A leather jacket gifted to my from my mom about ten years ago.  I wear it almost every day and it’s become close to the texture of butter.  I actually lost it for about a year in college and then it reappeared miraculously around graduation.  I think it might have magic powers.
  • An art deco style necklace made up of tiny red geometric pieces passed down to me by my aunt.  She was the first one to teach me about fashion and instilled in me a love of things unique and true to yourself.  One of my tattoos is an ode to this necklace (and more importantly to the strong, incredible, and completely badass woman that she was).
  • A leather trench coat purchased on a trip to Turkey from a tiny shop I was taken to by a local Turkish friend.  It’s so soft it makes me feel like I’m wrapped in cashmere and part of the Matrix at the same time.”

Where are your favorite places to shop?

“If I had my way (and money grew on trees) my closet would likely be a combination of Helmut Lang, All Saints, and Alexander Wang.  Unfortunately, I live in reality.  But, I love finding deals on designer items and pairing them with lower cost items.  For those I look to consignment shops and online sites like Gilt and Rue La La.  For mid-range, but still high quality pieces, I love stores like Cos and Oak & Fort.”

Do you have amazing style and identity as femme, or know someone who does? Drop me a line!

She is gorgeous and these photos look amazing! I agree– it’s so nice in this time to be easy to change the way you dress based on your mood.
