One of my favorite cosmetic products are nail polishes. I love the playfulness of having colorful nails. Polished nails are also a great way to accessorize an outfit. Currently my favorite nail polishes are metallics that make me think of mermaids (I’m obsessed with mermaids fyi). So here I will share with you three of my favorite seemingly mermaid-inspired or sea-side inspired nail polishes.
By far my favorite nail polish at the moment is Sally Hansen’s Mermaid’s Tail #560 (pictured first), very appropriately named for this post! A close second is Black and Blue #580 (pictured second). Both are from Sally Hansen’s Under the Sea collection, and both are part of their Complete Salon Manicure family. Sally Hansen’s CSM polishes are moderately priced, and can be found at most drugstores.
What I love about Mermaid’s Tail is the gel-like consistency of the polish and the tiny round green, blue, and silver sequins. The brush the polishes come with is perfect in that it picks up enough sequins to cover most of the nail. The dried sequins have a shimmer that produces the mermaid tail effect. Black and Blue is your standard metallic nail polish that incorporates shades of blue, green, and purple. The end product is mostly blue, but the shimmer in this metallic nail color is what sells it. I previously paired both using Mermaid’s Tail as the accent nail.
I discovered Julie G nail polishes through an Ipsy glambag & I’ve been in love with them ever since (if you don’t know what Ipsy is, it’s a cosmetic products service that delivers 4-5 products to you door every month- it’s pretty rad)! I picked up their You-niverse polish on a recent nail polish binge at my local drugstore.
I love this metallic copper gold shade that has a slight green tone mixed into it (sorry for the crappy photo, bad lighting- google it for a better photo!). It reminds me of a one of those shells you find at the beach that when you hold it up in the light and turn it slightly it shimmers and appears to have a hint of another color. It’s perfect for an accent nail or alone. Julie G polishes are very budget-friendly, and you can find them online as well as at some Rite Aid drugstores.
